Cake Trends of 2017
This is the year, the year the tiered wedding cake makes a comeback. After years of brides leaning more towards cake pops and cupcakes, it is time for the triumphant return of large tiered cakes. However, these tiered cakes have a modern twist with the tiers themselves being tall; these are called “double barrel” tiers.
As for cake colours, light cakes are the way to go; elegant and delicate whites and pastels, as well as metallic, give a modern yet still traditional feel that your grandparents will love.
One trend that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon is the naked cake. Simple yet sophisticated, naked cakes are perfect for any themed wedding, whether rustic or modern.
Reddy Made Cakes
One of our favourite bakers to work with is Crystal from Reddy Made Cakes. She is self-taught in the art of cake decorating and it isn’t hard to see that she is amazing at what she does.
After high school, Crystal did a co-op placement at a hotel. There she was taken under the wing of the hotel’s cook, Julie. After seeing Julie’s stunning desert plates and learning that she also did cakes on the side, she asked Julie to help her with a cake for her best friend’s baby shower. After that, her mind was made up and she knew what she wanted to do for a living.
From there she went on to attend Fanshawe College in London, Ontario for culinary arts. It was difficult at first, but she was determined to do her absolute best. With a lot of hard work, she excelled at her baking classes and was loving every minute of it. But she never stopped improving herself.
Next, Crystal went on to work at a camp for a French pastry chef. Even though at times she didn’t understand a thing that he was saying, she was in that kitchen every day proving herself and learning as much as she could.

Welcome to BC
In December 2010, Crystal made the drive from London, Ontario to Beautiful British Columbia to start her new life and a new career. In just a couple of years, Crystal managed to open her own brick and mortar location in Abbotsford, BC and has been there for the past 5 years. Every day she is testing herself and improving.
Crystal Reddy truly loves what she does, and it shows in everything that goes out of her doors.
