Wedding planning can be fun. Seriously! Every wedding planning journey has its own unique bumps and detours along the way. Give yourself some grace and space to mess up here and there, then simply dust yourself off and get back on the right track. Try to keep your sense of humour and perspective, so that no matter what pitfalls might appear, you won’t get overly stressed. To help keep things in perspective, here are some of the most common wedding planning mistakes that Emerald Events sees engaged couples tend to make when wedding planning.
Five of the most common wedding planning mistakes
You send out invites too quickly.
We know you’re super excited, but take the time to make sure you’ve finalized your guest list before you send anything out. Before you reach out the Great Aunt Mary, finalize a realistic guest number based on your budget. Check your venue guest limit and think of realistic limitations.
You don’t set a budget FIRST!
First things first: set a budget! There are few things worse than rushing ahead and committing to a venue and a dress, THEN setting your budget and having to back track because they don’t fit your finances. Once you land on an overall number, make a list of your priorities that you both can agree on. Once your budget is in place, you can make your guest list and book a venue.
You don’t have a contingency plan for bad weather.
If you’re planning an outdoor wedding, you have to make a plan B. Check with your venue to see about contingency plans, like alternate ceremony spots or tents. If you have put down an extra deposit for tents or umbrellas, don’t hesitate! It’s worth every penny for your peace of mind.
You opt not to hire a videographer.
You’ve booked a photographer, a DJ, and a caterer but you skipped on the videographer? Know that your wedding day will FLY BY and crisp, colourful video will capture every speech, every happy tear, and every crazy dance move. It will mean so much to relive your special day in the footage.
You stress over every little detail.
You wedding day is a big deal and you want every little thing to be just right. it’s natural. But try not to get so fixated on every little thing that you lose sight of the joy in the journey and the reason you’re getting married in the first place. If the place cards are ivory instead of white, don’t sweat it!
